“You KNOW it’s a NO if you don’t ask.” -Elisabeth Caetano
I came up with this quote to tell my daughter to empower herself to get her needs met. I want to teach her that it is up to her, not anyone else, to mind read or figure out what she needs and just give it to her.
Don’t reject yourself by not asking. We erroneously think that it doesn’t feel as bad if we just say no to ourselves, rather than having someone else say no to us. Don’t personalize a “no” from someone else. The price we pay in hurt by not asking is feeling anger an resentment. So ask away and let a no roll right over you! You never KNOW, it may be a YES!
If you would like help depersonalizing a “no” and learning new skills in how to be true to yourself, give me a call today at my San Diego office to see if the coaching counseling approach I use in therapy is a fit for you!
