“How you talk to yourself is the most important ongoing conversation that you will ever have in your life.” ~Elisabeth Caetano
I made this quote up as I was thinking about my own negative self talk in my own head one day. I realized that I was having an important conversation that was coloring my mood, feelings and actions for the day.
How we talk to ourselves is a foundational tool that we need to learn to grow our self-esteem. If you wouldn’t say it to your BFF, Husband, lover, friend, or your child, then you have no business saying it to yourself. Change the conversation in your head!
Here are 5 steps to remember for how to change your self esteem:
1) Stop beating up on yourself.
2) Catch the negative self thought and talk and replace it with a positive affirmation.
3) Fake it till you make it.
4) Repeat #1, #2, #3.
5) Give yourself permission to make mistakes and learn from them until the fake it till you make it becomes your new truth.
This is work. It takes practice and I fall down and get up a lot myself, but ultimately, I have a choice in what I say to myself in my own head. Try it and see if you start to slowly feel better, happier and healthier!
