9 Keys to Creating Connection
According to Dr. Brené Brown in her TEDx talk on vulnerability, “Connection is why we’re here. It’s what gives purpose and meaning to our lives.” But, how exactly does a person create connection with others? Check out the research findings by Dr. Brown below.
9 Ways to Create Connection with Others*
1) Allow ourselves to be seen, really seen.
2) Have a sense of worthiness.
3) Have a strong sense of love and belonging.
4) Be whole-hearted.
5) Fully embrace vulnerability.
6) Be willing to take risks.
7) Have the courage to be imperfect.
8) Have compassion to be kind to yourself first and then to others.
9) Be authentic with yourself and others.
Having the courage to be vulnerable and take risks with others to create connection in order to live life whole-heartedly can be incredibly scary. However, so is living a protected, insincere life, being numb to all emotion—the good and the difficult, which is really not living life at all.
