8 Reasons to Speak Your Truth!
All around us we are faced with opportunities to remain silent on matters we believe strongly about or to risk resistance, backlash or potentially creating conflict with people we know and even people we don’t if we dare to say something on the matter. It can be easy to just keep your opinions to yourself…but doing so, especially on very important personal and social issues, can prove devastating and detrimental if enough people choose to stay quiet.
8 Reasons to Stand Up and Speak
1) Gives you practice in setting boundaries.
2) Trains you to be pro-active.
3) Supports you in being a greater contributor to society.
4) Increases your overall productivity through living a more congruent life.
5) Increases your inner-strength (self-esteem).
6) Helps you get clear about the quality of life you desire, including outside of your home.
7) Provides you with a natural confidence booster.
8) Allows you to live your life being at-cause rather than a victim whose life is dependent on the choices and actions of others.
Knowing when and HOW to speak up is an entirely other matter which I will write on in a future post. For today, answer some of these questions for yourself.
How does it make you feel when you don’t speak up on matters that are important to you or if you allow others to make decisions on your behalf—especially if you don’t agree with them—by taking the approach that “there’s nothing you can do about it or change it?” Each of us, at least in this country, have the same right of freedom of speech and the resources and authority to exact change in our lives, communities, and even our country overall. What are you doing with this gift? Is it time to make any changes to your approach and/or willingness to speak up for what you believe?
