While the hustle and bustle of December is in full swing, and the “perfect” Christmas, Hanukkah, etc. is advertised, it can be tough getting support during the holidays. I wanted to take a moment to reflect on giving support to those that struggle this time of year.
It is important to remember that not everyone is surrounded by large, supportive families and friends. Some of us have problems during the holidays. Sometimes we are overcome with great sadness when we remember the loved ones who are not with us or who have passed away. Many people are alone during this time of the year and some people are surrounded by people and still feel alone.
We all need caring, loving thoughts at this time of year. Please take a moment to stop what you are doing and say a prayer of support to all those who have family problems, health struggles, job issues, who are homeless, or have worries of any kind.
Ways of giving support during the holidays:
~Give a compliment to a stranger. You never know if that small act of kindness will let the person know that someone cares.
~Tell someone that you will pray for them, not out of pity but out of love and caring. Sometimes those small connections mean the world to a person who is struggling.
Say prayers and practice small acts of kindness for all of us, for nobody is immune from problems and angst much of which is exacerbated at this time of the year.
Ways of getting support during the holidays:
~Ask for what you need from friends and family
~Support yourself by saying “no” and putting in boundaries
~Join a free support group such as Codependent Anonymous, or a Women’s support group or a church group
~Hire a coaching counselor to help you with tools a skills to get you through the holidays
