I am super excited to share that I have reached several goals and I want to share with you 4 ways I used to do it! I launched my new website last October and became a blogger and writer-poof! Well maybe not “poof” as it wasn’t that easy, and believe me, I have had amazing support from some amazing people!
This is still a work in progress because at my heart is the desire to help people change their lives and I love being a therapist. This dream/goal was born out of a desire to reach more people. This was a goal that I had a LOT of FEAR about. Lot’s of negative self talk in my head like, “I can’t”, “I’m not a good writer, “I hate to write”, “What if no one reads my work”, “I am a techy dinosaur”, and so on. I had to challenge my fears and negative thinking, feel my way through the fear and take action anyway.
Today I just found out I was accepted to be a guest writer for the website Lifehack.org! This goes hand-n-hand with wanting reach more people with my website/blog to share great, useable tools to really help change people’s lives, by reaching a larger audience! It was scary to ask for them to approve me as a writer. I had to risk rejection, but I did it and the answer was yes! I’m so excited!
So, here are 4 ways I use to reach my goals:
1) Feel the fear and DO IT anyway! If you have noticed one theme to my writings, I preach about taking action. Any action. You do have to just move through the fear as you are taking the action, but just take one step at a time. This is suppo
2) ASK! Yes, ask for what you want/need. You know it’s a “no”, if you don’t ask. Why are you saying no to yourself before you even ask. Most people fear rejection, so they “reject” themselves first to avoid pain. What if it had been a yes, like in my case. Say yes to yourself first. Then go ask!
3) If it’s a no, keep asking! My sister is also a writer and she had a great story to share that was rejected by Huff Post. She went elsewhere and had it published. Guess what? She is now getting the same story published in Huff Post! When one door closes, a window opens.
4) Trust your gut/God and follow the signs. I call trusting your gut (and for me it’s God), being in the zone. It’s a feeling place, not a concrete place. When I start to tilt towards inaction, I just slightly lean into trust by visualizing the fear beside me and myself moving forward. Then I take the next indicated step.
So, there you have it. 4 ways that I used to reach one of my big goals. I am still working on these goals and they are a work in progress but I keep feeling, asking, moving and trusting, I will attain them or something close to them. I have no idea where this is going but I am enjoying the ride. I hope you join with me on this journey called life.
