5 Tips for Healing After Breakup or Divorce
The period following a divorce or breakup can be painful, difficult, and challenging. In fact, it can be absolutely devastating, regardless of whether the breakup or divorce was initiated by you or by your partner. However, the good news is there are effective ways to move through the hard part and get to the other side of the heartache, where healing begins.
5 Suggestions for Healing after a Divorce or Breakup
1) Allow yourself to feel your feelings.
2) Talk through your feelings with a trusted friend, group of friends or a trained therapist.
3) Keep in mind that your ultimate goal is to move on and forward. Keep this as your focus.
4) Be aware of and acknowledge that you have a future ahead of you that isn’t dependent on being with your former spouse or significant other.
5) Get educated on the general feelings that follow a breakup or divorce and actual depression. Get professional support if you find yourself displaying symptoms of true depression.
Bonus Tip: Reframe this as a time of growing from your experience. Work on finding out who you truly are and what your authentic story is. It can be a time of learning as you transition to this new phase in your life.
Above all, remind yourself that this is a temporary time of pain and difficulty and that, in time, you will move through it and have a whole new life waiting for you on the other side.
