5 (Fun) Ways to Kick Procrastination to the Curb
One of the biggest obstacles to having the lives we desire and accomplishing our goals is the “P” word: procrastination. It is not only a time stealer, it is an incredibly disempowering dream stealer. Consider the life you could be living today if procrastination hadn’t gotten in your way. Now, what are you going to do about it today to move forward and leave procrastination in the dust?
5 (Fun) Ways to Kick Procrastination to the Curb
1) Make it a game. Create a list of things you want to accomplish, starting with the most daunting at the top and the easier ones farther down the list. The “more desirable” actions get done and progress is made.
2) Break the actions down into small chunks. Often, several steps that take just a few minutes each can be far less scary than staring at one larger action that feels like it’s going to be even 10 minutes of torture.
3) Attach a fun reward to each completed task. Celebrate your progress as you go along instead of waiting until the entire project is completed.
4) Get yourself into the mood. Do whatever brings you a few minutes of joy first and then get started on your list. Your productivity will likely skyrocket!
5) Give yourself a time limit for how long you “have” to stay in action. When the timer goes off, you get to choose if you want to stop and move on to something else or set the timer again for the same action and keep going.
Rest assured, you are in good company. The procrastination bug gets to even the most committed of us. Brain studies show that when you start to do something you feel better and more encouraged to keep going. Once you complete one small task your brain gets a boost and you start to feel more motivated as well as accomplishment. Basically, action begets action. The power is within you to get things moving!
